Canoeist featured in fitness film

Not only is Daniel Daniels a terrific athlete, he's also now the star of a film.

Daniels was one of a number of Aboriginal athletes whose preparation for the 2008 North American Indigenous Games was followed for the 30-minute film Wired for Fitness, which was produced by the provincial Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport, and will be distributed to all K-12 schools and Band-operated schools this fall.

First nations participants flock to Sun Run

Denise Lecoy calls it a ripple effect, but really, it's more like a tsunami.

Three years ago, Lecoy, coordinator for the provincial government's aboriginal health initiative Honour Your Health Challenge, convinced her superiors to include the Sun Run as a funded component of the government's program. Some 150 native people from Penticton and Vancouver participated.

Last year, the number of participants grew to 700.

Increasing Physical Activity Participation among 14 Aboriginal BC Communities

The Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Association of BC (ASRA) launched the Aboriginal Seed Grant program for the first time this winter and with the selection complete, over 1,200 Aboriginal people across BC will become engaged in sport, recreation and physical activity.
