The 2010 Olympic Torch Relay has completed its tour through the Northwest Territories (NWT). The Town of Inuvik was the first NWT community to be visited by the Olympic Torch on November 4, followed by Yellowknife, Dettah, and N’dilo on November 5, 2009.

Hockey Greats Team Up For Aboriginal Kids

Fifty Aboriginal children will today be the first to participate in a unique leadership camp, part of a five-year partnership announced between The Tim Horton Children's Foundation and Ted Nolan Foundation.The youths, some of whom have never left their native reserve, were selected from the Sault Ste. Marie First Nation to attend the five-day camp at the Tim Horton Children's Foundation camp just north of Brantford. The Tim Horton Children's Foundation has adapted its youth leadership program to cater specifically to Aboriginal youth. Read more>>

Open Call for all Artists in Nunavut for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Vancouver

The Nunavut Arts and Crafts Association (NACA) is proud to announce an open call for all artists in Nunavut who are interested in participating in the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Vancouver.

The intention of this program is to send six artists to Vancouver, representing a wide range of talents and skills from across the territory. We will work in partnership with existing galleries in the city of Vancouver to strengthen relations and cross promote emerging and existing artists. Through this project, Nunavut is committed to showcasing emerging artists who do not have an existing presence with the galleries in Vancouver.
This search will focus on representation from the following groups of artists:

• 1 Jewelry Maker
• 1 Print Maker
• 1 Doll Artist
• 1 Wall Hanging Artist
• 1 Carver

There will be a sixth place held for one additional artist of no specific genre. All applications will be accepted and considered. Artists working in multiple genres are encouraged to apply. The selection will come down to need and programming opportunities that arise for participation in games time activities.

Applications should be submitted to the Nunavut Arts and Crafts Association by October 20th 2009.
